Julia Goulding says Vicky McClure would be a great fit as her on-screen sister in Corrie

The 37-year-old actress, who has played Shona Platt in the ITV soap since 2016, thinks it would be a great fit if the ‘Line of Duty’ actress - who plays DI Kate Fleming in the BBC drama - made a cameo on the cobbles as her sibling, but joked her character might be in trouble if that was the case.

She said: “She’s be my sister, I mean come on! She’s brilliant in ‘Line of Duty’ – we need to get on the phone to her. Although she always plays a detective, and that wouldn’t be good for Shona.

“There’s always something to be dug up, especially around the Platt family.”

Shona became the wife of David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) after his first wife Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) was murdered.

Despite this, Julia would love to see Kylie return to Weatherfield.

When asked which character she would like to see back on the cobbles, she said: “My first thought is Kylie Platt – I think that would make incredibly good drama! Could you imagine that? Shona would be out on her ear!

"It would be very interesting to see what would happen. Paula Lane is amazing and I’d love to work with her. Or I’d go old school and bring back Elsie Tanner [Pat Phoenix], or Raquel [Watts, played by Sarah Lancashire], or Phyllis [Pearce, portrayed by Jill Summers]."

Last year, the show celebrated its 60th anniversary and to mark the occasion Queen Elizabeth visited the soap's set.

Speaking about royal the experience, Julia added to Inside Soap magazine: "I’m not a massive royalist, but it was incredibly special.

"The queen has the most porcelain skin and a twinkle in her eyes. It was surreal, and I got quite emotional after meeting her. She’s the Queen of England and has held that role for 70 years – it was really special."
