The 'Good Morning Britain' star's spouse Derek Draper was devastatingly struck down by the virus last year but remains in a coma as he battles the complications from the virus and Kate's co-star Piers Morgan admits there are talks that Derek "may never come out" of the coma.

Speaking about his friend's plight, he said: "I was going to come to Kate, obviously we’ve had it right at our desk on Good Morning Britain. I can remember it happening, it was on my birthday when I heard, March 30th, that he’d been taken to hospital. We just hoped he would make a quick recovery, you know he’s 52, he didn’t have any underlying conditions, and he’s still in a coma now. It’s talked about that he may never come out of it, she doesn’t know, she’s living in this terrible limbo."

And Piers admitted Kate and Derek were "happier" than ever before the virus struck.

He added to The Sun's TV Mag: "The last time I saw Derek was at my annual Christmas pub party. They were there, Kate had just done the jungle and she came back and a week later she came to my pub party with Derek. They were in all the papers because she was so hot from the jungle at the time. I’ve never seen them happier, they were going to review their wedding vows. Then that happened.

"Kate went from being on top of the world to being at the bottom of the world. My heart breaks for her. And it carries on breaking for her. It’s a nightmare for her."

Kate - who has Darcey Mary, 14, and William, 11, with Derek - has been open about her experience in the past as the relative of one of the UK's longest suffering COVID-19 patients.
