The 41-year-old star - who appeared as Becky McDonald in the ITV soap from 2006 to 2012 - doesn't want to step foot on the cobbles again because her character was "very much of her time".

She said: "That character was very much of her time, and I think, in all honesty, she would be a bitter disappointment to revisit."

The 'Innocent' star believes her cobbles alter-ego is "better left with fondness" rather than returning to the soap and possibly "spoiling" the memories of her character.

She added to Scotland's Herald Magazine: "I would hate for her to be spoiled in any way, because it was such a perfect character, at a perfect time.

"Becky's better left with a fondness."

Katherine's character worked in the Underworld knicker factory under Bradley Walsh's alter-ego Danny Baldwin, and she previously admitted 'The Chase' presenter gave her some crucial advice about soap acting, which stood her in great stead in Weatherfield.

She said: "When I was his factory girl, a long time ago now, in my first scenes with him he was really watching me.

"I'd come from theatre so I was waiting for notes and directions and he said, 'You won't get any of that, just do what you want to do.' So I did.

"But I don't think I would've had the confidence so early on if it wasn't for Bradley.

"He pulled me over to one side and said, 'I think you're quite remarkable, and I know you're only here for six episodes,' which was my initial contract, but he said, 'I think if you want to stay in this show you've got a huge future.' "

And since appearing on 'Corrie', Katherine has landed roles in several dramas, including 'Mr Selfridge', 'Happy Valley', 'The Night Manager', 'Strike Back', and 'Cheat'.
