Kaya Scodelario misses playing her Skins character Effy.

The troubled teenager was at the forefront of the E4 drama and now Kaya has fond memories of her time on the show.

Admitting she thought she'd find it hard to find new roles after leaving the series, she said to Time Out magazine: "Effy had been my only acting experience. I didn't know if I could do anything else. It's funny, I miss her a lot now."

Asked if she thought her career was over when hit TV show Wuthering Heights ended she replied: "A bit. I was so lucky to get 'Wuthering Heights'. It was such a different role. I was proving to myself that I could do it".

Since her appearance in that show, Kaya also has been cast in The Maze Runner which she found difficult to film because of the predominantly male cast.

"Near the end, I flew my best friend out to Louisiana. It was actually fine. I've grown up around a lot of boys and lots of my friends are guys.

"But there were so many boys and I just needed some female company. I called her and I was like: "Bring me tampons and hairspray. I need you now."

The Maze Runner opens in UK cinemas this Friday, October 10.
