The televised charity match got off to a slow start at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, with pop star Olly Murs replaced by Manchester rapper Aitch, as his long-standing knee injury let him down just 14 minutes in.

However, in the second half, the celebrity team - including musicians Tom Grennan, James Boy, Yungblud and TV's Mark Wright and - picked up the pace, with former 'Love Island' star Kem, 25, getting two goals, before comedian Lee Mack, 53, finally got one in the back of the net with three seconds to go following two previous failed attempts.

The latter's attempts to get match fit were documented in the show 'Lee Mack's Road to Soccer Aid' after he missed three penalties in three consecutive 'Soccer Aid' games.

Football ace Wayne Rooney, 35, had a missed opportunity to give the England team a goal late on in the game but kicked it far too wide, and the end result was 3-1 to team World XI.

Meanwhile, before the second half, TV comic Stephen Mulhern was unmasked as the Whistle in a quick game of 'The Masked Winger', a play on TV's 'The Masked Singer', he then proceeded to play for a few minutes before leaving the pitch.

Retired soccer ace and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador David Beckham presented the winning team with their trophy.

The fundraising match for UNICEF - which aired on ITV - managed to raise £13 million for the organisation that provides humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide.

Dermot O'Leary returned as the host and was joined by Alex Scott as a touchline reporter and pundits including Maya Jama.

Before the game kicked off, Joel Dommett replaced Paddy McGuinness as goalkeeper after he pulled out due to an injury, while Roman Kemp had to miss out on the game following a positive COVID-19 result.
