The 59-year-old actress - who is best known for portraying flirtatious blonde bombshell Samantha in 'Sex and the City - will play murder victim Emily French in the two-part drama, which is set in the 1920s, as detectives work as fast as they can to track down her cold-blooded brutal killer.

Leonard Vole - portrayed by Billy Howle - is the first in a long list of killers as he is the heir to her future.

Andrea Riseborough has also joined the drama as Vole's girlfriend while Toby Jones will play his defence lawyer.

It is not yet known when 'The Witness For The Prosecution - which is based on the classic novel that depicts the story of the murder of heiress Emily - is expected to hit TV screens.

Sarah Phelps, who adapted J. K. Rowling's 'The Casual Vacancy' for the BBC in 2015, is returning to lend her expertise to the script whilst Julian Jarrold will direct.

Meanwhile, Kim is no stranger to the UK as she also took part in the BBC documentary series 'Who Do You Think You Are' and has had several stints on the London stage.

She was most recently cast in the play 'Linda' at the Royal Court, but had to pull out due to "chronic insomnia."
