Dave, 64, recently revealed he is to undergo chemotherapy because he "hasn't been too well recently", and his good pal Si, 55, insisted he won't work without Dave.

Speaking to The Daily Mail's Richard Eden at the Fortnum Mason Food and Drinks Awards at the Royal Exchange in London, he said: "There's no [Punch Judy] show without Punch and there's no Hairy Bikers without Dave.

"We've always been joined at the hip, so it's very odd for me and it's very odd for Dave. We'll get through it — he's as tough as an old boot."

Instead Si will focus on his music, explaining: "I have a 12-piece funk band which takes up a lot of time. We're on tour all year and will extend our stay in Spain."

Last week, Dave revealed he is to undergo chemotherapy but didn't go into detail about what he is suffering from.

Speaking to Si, he said: "I've got to come clean now, I haven't been too well recently and basically, I've got to have some chemo, you [Si King] know all this anyway. So this year is going to be a bit quiet for me, I'm not going to be filming, some of the festivals I'm not going to be able to go to, some may be OK, but this year's a bit of a write off for us.

"I have had to speak up about this because I don't want to hide under a rock, but I would love it if people respected my privacy and just let me get on with it and give Si and our team all the support they need. That would be great. But look, the prognosis is OK. I'm going to be fine."

Dave - who has been married to Liliana Orzac since 2011 and is stepfather to her two children - admitted he needs to look after his diet and joked that he looks "alright" bald.

He said: "I've just got to tuck in, look after myself, eat sensibly and get over this mess, flog books, and be a happy person so within that, that's where I am. I may be a baldy biker for a while so it's just a warning, I don't want to make a fuss about it, I look alright bald actually.

"Under different circumstances I would embrace it more but I feel under these circumstances it's simply something I have to live with, get on with it, and crack on."
