Liam Fox was "upset" when he found out his Emmerdale character Dan Spencer wasn't Amelia Spencer's real dad.

The 48-year-old star was dealt a crushing blow when he read in the script that his on-screen daughter's (Daisy Campbell) real father was actually his alter-ego's brother Daz Spencer (Mark Jordon), admitting it felt like he was "losing a bit of history" on the soap.

He told BANG Showbiz: "It was a little bit upsetting. Because I came into the village with Ruby and Ali and Amelia and it was like having my family gone when I found out.

"That was like losing a bit of history.

"I was a bit sad ... it was a bit upsetting. Like losing some of my family."

Since the bombshell, Amelia has gone missing, which has rocked the Spencers, and in next week's episodes Dan's suspicions about his brother are raised when the police take Daz away for questioning over her disappearance.

Mark is no stranger to seeing a fictional police cell having starred in 'Heartbeat' as PC Phil Bellamy for 15 years, and while he loved being the family drama show, he has enjoyed his character being on the other side of the law in 'Emmerdale'.

He said: "They're both such delightful jobs. I think the story is really good in this and there is such intrigue over why the police have interest in Daz, so I'm very keen to show this.

"It's not that delicate Sunday night favourite, which I was very appreciative to be in, but there's so much more you can bring, so I quite like being hauled off by the police."
