The 'Loose Women' panellist - who has three children with husband Mark Dunford - is now said to be on the road to recovery but her friends and family had reportedly called emergency services for help amid fears she was close to meltdown.

An insider explained the 60-year-old star hadn't been sleeping well over the festive period and added to The Sun on Sunday newspaper: It all got a bit too much for Linda and the family, and that's why they called in police and experts.

"The family reached breaking point as Linda's behaviour was becoming a bit erratic. They were worried she might hurt herself."

A spokesperson for the 'Birds of a Feather' actress declined to comment but the Metropolitan police confirmed they had visited her London home "following concerns for an occupant".

Linda recently admitted she regularly tests herself for signs of dementia because she's terrified of succumbing to the disease like her beloved mother Rita, who passed away in 2012.

She said: "I test myself all the time to check I'm not getting it.

"I try to remember numbers, things like that. It was awful seeing the woman I worshiped deteriorate."

Linda is currently working with the Alzheimer's Society to help raise money to pay for research into the disease and is also a big supporter of Marie Curie, which helped nurse her mother in a hospice in the months before she died.

She shared: "They made my mum's last months and moments the best they possibly could.

"I can never thank them enough for the way they looked after my mum."
