Though we’ve still got one episode of BBC One drama Line Of Duty to go, we’re of course now looking ahead to the fifth series of the show, and creator and writer Jed Mercurio has spoken out a little about what we should expect.

Speaking to the BBC, he said: “I want to look at the personal lives of all the regulars in series five – they’ve taken a backseat in this series to Roz Huntley (Thandie Newton), so it would be good to explore that side of things a bit more.

“The regulars are definitely up for doing more… that’s if they survive the final episode!”

Speaking about Thandie’s casting, he added: “We were flattered she wanted to do the role – most of her career she’s been doing Hollywood movies so it was a boost for the whole team.”

He also gave some advice for budding writers: “Just write, write, write. Watch lots of shows and films in that genre. Read lots and think about story and characters.”

His comments of course come with a warning; so exactly what should we expect from tonight’s (April 30) series 4 finale? Will some of our favourite characters meet their maker in the episode, or will justice finally be served?

Tune in as the Line Of Duty series 4 finale airs on BBC One tonight at 9pm.
