Matt Lucas and David Walliams will reunite to bring back the nation's beloved characters - including Dafydd, Vicky Pollard, Emily Howard, Marjorie Dawes, Mr Mann, and Lou and Andy - alongside original cast members Ruth Jones and Anthony Head, as well as narrator Tom Baker.

The politically-charged episode will air on BBC Radio 4 on Thursday and will catch up with the characters to find out how Brexit is affecting their lives.

Radio 4 comedy commissioning editor Sioned Wiliam said: "Matt Lucas and David Walliams are uniquely talented writers and performers as well as one of the UK's most loved comedy duos."

The show originally aired on the radio station in 2000 before moving to the BBC as a TV series which ran for three series and won back-to-back BAFTAs for Best Comedy Performance.

Sioned added: "It's a privilege to have them back on Radio 4, where 'Little Britain' first began almost 20 years ago."

This comes after Matt admitted in 2017 he would make 'Little Britain' differently now if he was having another go, because "society has moved on a lot" and he had changed his own opinions. He said: "If I could go back and do 'Little Britain' again, I wouldn't make those jokes about transvestites.

"I wouldn't play black characters. Basically, I wouldn't make that show now. It would upset people.

"We made a more cruel kind of comedy than I'd do now.

"Society has moved on a lot since then, and my own views have evolved. There was no bad intent there - the only thing you could accuse us of was greed. We just wanted to show off about what a diverse bunch of people we could play."

'Little Britain' featured sketches of the likes of fictional teenage delinquent Vicky Pollard, played by Matt, and he and David also portrayed transvestites Florence and Emily Howard, whose catchphrase was: "I'm a lady!"

Matt added: "Now I think it's lazy for white people to get a laugh just by playing black characters. My aim is to entertain, I don't have any other agenda. And as I've got older, I've become more empathetic, I care more about hurting people."
