The hugely popular ITV2 dating show will be returning to the airwaves in January with viewers being treated to a double dose of villa romance to kick off 2020, and it will still just be called 'Love Island', rather than 'Winter Love Island'.

In a video posted on Twitter, narrator Iain Stirling says: "Oh winter, what is your problem? Every year you make it so Baltic our toes go numb, and we want to hide under our duvets.

"You're just rain, sleet, drizzle repeat. You happily make us wear layers and layers of clothes, and then watch us trudge through our daily lives. Thanks to you, we're stuck indoors with the heat turned up.

"Well guess what, winter? You can take your frostbite and stick it where the sun don't shine. This year, our heads have been turned.

"We'll be covering ourselves in glitter and dancing round the fire pit, and there's nothing you can do about it. Do one, winter!"

The clip shows lots of bikini and swimming shorts-clad people partying on the beach, and host Caroline makes an appearance with a message ahead of the new series.

She adds: "Sorry winter, you're just not our type."

The 40-year-old presenter previously teased that the upcoming winter edition would the the "hottest" series yet.

She said: "I literally cannot wait. It is going to be so hot. Probably the hottest one yet... Love Island's twice a year now, it's going to be mad."

Over summer, it was reported bosses were on the lookout for "twins, goth girls and Essex lads" as contestants.

One potential villa star claimed at the time: "I was asked if I was single and they showed me credentials from ITV2.

"I was a bit nervous about giving my name so they then showed me an email where they'd been asked to find 'types'. On there, it listed twins, goth girls and Essex lads."
