Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread, Let Him Go, Mum) helms an outstanding cast that includes veteran British stage and screen actor Tim McMullan (Foyles War), BAFTA nominated Daniel Mays (1917, Line of Duty), Pippa Haywood (Bodyguard, Bridgerton), Michael Maloney (The Crown, The Trial Of Christine Keeler) and double Olivier award-winning Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones).

The six-part series will be directed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty, Military Wives, The A Word), and produced by Eleventh Hour Films for Masterpiece and BritBox UK.

Magpie Murders isn’t just any crime drama, it is one with a rather special twist. The series showcases a murder mystery within a murder mystery, with an amazing narrative that spans two time periods - the 1950s and contemporary Britain - with the cast playing multiple characters from different literary dimensions.

Susan Ryeland (Manville) is the editor for best-selling mystery writer Alan Conway (Hill). However, when she receives an unfinished Conway manuscript, featuring his hugely popular detective Atticus Pünd (McMullan), she is pointed in a specific direction, while having little to no idea that it will change her life forever.

With no sign of the author, Susan must attempt to figure out what to do, and perhaps even solve this intriguing case; but, can she find him in time?

The first look images for Magpie Murders show both the talented cast in costume and character, as well as the olden days-style setting. It seems as though this forthcoming series has quite a lot hidden up its sleeve, and will be the perfect show for fans of crime novels.

Adaptations of this sort can be tricky to get right, however, BritBox’s forthcoming series has a lot going for it already, including a wonderful cast and what appears to be the ideal setting for a show of this genre. Mystery and intrigue lie ahead for viewers.

Magpie Murders will debut on BritBox on February 10th, 2022.
