ABC Studios' action-packed drama series Marvel's Agent Carter has been picked up by FOX UK in a deal negotiated by Toby Etheridge and Ceceilia Beacon for the network.

Inspired by the feature films Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger and Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier as well as the short Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter, the series consists of eight hour-long episodes, the first of which will premiere in the UK on FOX this July.

Viewers are transported to 1946 where Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) is working for the covert Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR). Given administrative work she's bored and frustrated, having sworn to protect those who are unable to protect themselves but being relegated to a desk. As a highly-trained field agent she's on a mission to prove her male colleagues have underestimated her, and when old acquaintance Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) finds himself in the frame for unleashing a deadly weapon, he contacts Peggy in the hopes she can track down those truly responsible and clear his name.

Taking on the mission secretly, Agent Carter is running the risk of being targeted as a traitor and spending the rest of her life in a cell if she's caught, but as she delves into the investigation she discovers that - as usual in this type of world - things are not always as they seem.

James D'Arcy, Chad Michael Murray, Enver Gjokaj and Shea Whigham all star as Edwin Jarvis, Agent Jack Thompson, Agent Daniel Sousa and Chief Roger Dooley respectively.

With high production values and a stellar UK and international cast, the series is the perfect addition to FOX UK's summer line up, continuing the channel's commitment to bring exclusive, original and breakthrough series to a UK audience."

General Manager of Media Distribution at Disney UK and Ireland, Dayna Donaldson adds: "Marvel's Agent Carter is another great example of gripping storytelling from ABC Studios, so we're delighted that it has found a home in the UK on FOX. We're sure that the compelling, fast-paced and mysterious storylines will keep UK viewers on the edge of their seats this summer."

Marvel's Agent Carter joins a summer line-up on FOX UK which also includes the finale of sci-fi drama Falling Skies and the return of American Detective anthology series Murder In The First.
