The 86-year-old celebrity chef will host ‘Love To Cook’, a new BBC Two programme which will see her travel up and down the UK showing people how to make classic dishes on a budget.

The former 'Great British Bake Off' judge said: "'Love To Cook' is me in a nutshell!

"My cooking is all about sharing what I know and love, teaching and inspiring everyone to enjoy cooking as much as I do.

"Over the past year many have had unexpected time on their hands at home and have found a love of cooking to be comforting and healing in very difficult times.

"'Love To Cook' is all about celebrating just that, with wonderful characters, as I travel the British Isles in a quest to meet and share in our passion for food."

The recipes are said to be suitable for beginners all the way up to baking experts.

Catherine Catton, BBC Head of Commissioning, Popular Factual and Factual Entertainment, said: “We are delighted to be working with Mary again and very much looking forward to sharing new recipes that she loves to cook.”

Mary will release a cookbook in conjunction with the series, which will air for six weeks and starts later this year.

She was previously a judge on the 'Great British Bake Off' but announced her departure from the show when it moved from the BBC to Channel 4 in 2016.

Mary said the programme had been "a unique and brilliant format from day one" and she was "just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change".
