Matt Smith would return for a Doctor Who anniversary episode.

Although he has only been off the show for a few months, the 31-year-old actor is open to reprising his role as the Eleventh Doctor again when the sci-fi series next celebrates a landmark, just like Tenth Doctor David Tennant did in last year's 50th anniversary episode 'The Day of the Doctor'.

Speaking about his scenes with David during his appearance at the Wizard World Con Q&A panel, Matt said: "It was a real historic moment for me. I always look at David and go, 'Oh my God. It's 'Doctor Who!' David is a great guy and a good friend. It was so fun. Doctors in the same room is just magic, isn't it ... I'll happily come back for another anniversary."

Matt left the programme, after four years playing the titular Time Lord, in the 2013 Christmas special 'The Time of the Doctor' to be replaced by Peter Capaldi.

The star revealed his favourite period in the role was Series 5, which saw the Doctor and his companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) try and work out the mystery of the Pandorica prison which was used to trap the Time Lord.

Matt said: "For me, the best storytelling was in Series Five. It had great adventure and great clarity, and I loved the whole idea about the Pandorica and the Big Bang. It was the one I connected with the most ... looking back, I think some of my best work was in my first series, because I was actually taking real risks and that was a real moment."
