Maureen Lipman has joked she wouldn't ever take part in 'Strictly Come Dancing' because she might "punch" judge Craig Revel Horwood.

The 'Coronation Street' actress - who plays battleaxe Evelyn Plummer on the ITV soap - isn't likely to swap the cobbles for the dance floor anytime soon, because she "doesn't like being criticised", so wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of any negative feedback about her dancing.

She said: "I know Craig Revel Horwood, he’s a dear man, but if he told me I hadn’t got the right turn out, or that I had two left feet, I would probably punch him!"

The 74-year-old star - who is set to become a dame - only recently returned to the cobbles following the coronavirus lockdown, as a result of the soap's over-70s gradually heading back to Weatherfield due to them being more at risk amid the pandemic.

And she joked her co-stars have been treating her like a "slightly mad old lady".

She quipped: "There’s a vibrating chair in the Green Room at work and if I come in, they leap up out of the chair saying, 'Oh sorry, in you go.' They’re all treating me like a slightly mad old lady!"

Maureen shared a flat with her 'Corrie' co-star Rula Lenska (Claudia Colby) until recently, and she admitted the abode was "much more fun" when the pair were living together.

She added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "It was much more fun when Rula was in it.

"We’d be barking with laughter, moaning and whinging and eating too much Wagamama."
