The 30-year-old actress - who portrays Lance Corporal Georgie Lane in the programme - almost quit the military drama after script expert Andrea Bamford was struck by a deadly arachnid while filming was taking place for the forthcoming series.

A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: "They hooked her up on a drip and said if she was 15 minutes later she would have died.

"Everyone, including Michelle, is completely shocked and feels they are in danger. Bosses had to assure them that it is fine to continue filming."

Despite dealing with deadly animals, Michelle has admitted landing the lead role in the drama has been a career highlight because it's forced her out of her comfort zone.

The former 'Coronation Street' actress - who played Georgie in last year's series - said: "Landing the role for 'Our Girl' has been my career highlight so far. It forced me to go out of my comfort zone. I've had the opportunity to shoot in so many amazing places around the world and I've really enjoyed the role. The best piece of advice anyone has ever given me is to stay true to who you are while being the best version of yourself you can be. This has been amazing year - filming 'Our Girl' and partnering with Very!"

Her globe-trotting work commitments have meant that she hasn't had much time to relax but, when she does get time off, she likes to spend it with husband Mark Wright.

She told the Daily Star newspaper: "I don't get much time off from work. This year has been the busiest I've had so far.

"When I had two weeks off from filming this summer I worked every day shooting the [campaign with Very], which was really exciting but meant I didn't have a lot of downtime. But when I do take a break I like to spend time with Mark."
