Though MTV's Scream the Television Series has got off to a bumpy start with huge conflicts in opinion when it comes to the critics, the network is sticking by the horror show and has renewed it for a second season.

Despite some of the negativity, it's been revealed that the series has brought in more than 21 million on-air viewers and 7.9 million streaming viewers since its debut in June, with only five episodes broadcast at the time of writing.

With no cast members yet announced for the second season, it's unclear as to what approach the showrunners will be taking the series in terms of storytelling - it could carry on with its current mystery and bring back characters which manage to survive, or it could opt to go down the anthology format route, jumping to another set of characters and a different killer entirely.

In any case it's good news for fans of the franchise that the network are already happy with the show's performance just half way into the first season.

Scream the TV series airs Tuesdays at 10pm on MTV in the US.
