The 'Good Omens' creator will work exclusively with the streaming giant on new TV series, which will premiere in over 200 countries and territories on the Amazon Prime Video series and is "thrilled" with the agreement.

He said: "What decided me was how much I enjoyed working with the Amazon team on 'Good Omens'.

"They are smart, gloriously enthusiastic people, who weren't afraid of 'Good Omens' being different but who were as determined as I was to make something as unique and exciting as it is.

"I'm thrilled to know that I'll have a home at Amazon in the future where I can make television that nobody's seen before, that's quite unlike 'Good Omens', but just as unusual and just as much fun."

And Amazon are delighted to have inked a deal with the "phenomenally talented" author and can't wait to see what his "gifted vision" will bring to their audience.

Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios, said: "Neil Gaiman is a phenomenally talented writer, who creates worlds that are compelling, multi-dimensional and narratively unique.

"His fans are ardent, vocal and passionate and we are fortunate to bring his gifted vision to the Prime Video audience."

'Good Omens' will premiere on Amazon Prime Video in the coming months and features an all-star cast including David Morrissey, Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, Jake Whitehall, Jon Hamm, Miranda Richardson and Derek Jacobi.

It is based on the novel 'Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch' , a collaboration between Neil and the late Terry Pratchett, which is set in 2018 when the Apocalypse is near, and the Good and Evil armies are rising.
