One of the most horrific crimes of our time took place in 1996, Boulder, Colorado, when six-year-old pageant queen JonBenet Ramsey was murdered in her own home. Police were left puzzled by the incident and now, two decades later, director Kitty Green has returned to the city to audition local actors and create a brand new film about the child’s life and death. The first official trailer for Casting JonBenet has now been released by Netflix, and you can check it out below:

Over a 15-month period, filmmakers travelled to the Ramseys’ Colorado hometown to gain reflection and responses from the local community who grew up with the story firmly planted in the back of their minds. In doing so, this film examines how the crime and the theories behind it have shaped the behaviour and attitudes of generations of parents and children; but who can truly be believed?

With the case still unsolved, the film will likely play a part in encouraging further speculation about JonBenet’s death. Though we perhaps now will never know who killed the young starlet, we will forever remember her name.
