On September 26th this year (2021), new series BMF will drop on Starzplay, a crime drama produced by musical artist 50 Cent, aka Curtis Jackson. The show is inspired by the true events of the Flenory family in Detroit during the 1980s.

STARZ continues to grow in popularity, with its ongoing expansion of the Starzplay international premium streaming platform. Starzplay’s rapid expansion has grown into over 55 countries since its launch in May of 2018.

Curtis Jackson III, known professionally as 50 Cent, was born on July 6th, 1975 in South Jamaica, New York. Jackson is a well-known and beloved wrapper, and has produced numerous popular albums.

Set in 1980s Detroit, Michigan, BMF draws inspiration from the true story of the Flenory family, one of the most influential crime families of their time. Created by two brothers, the family would seemingly turn a different direction, and expand beyond the drug trade.

Demetrius (Demetrius Flenory Jr.) and Terry Flenory (Da’Vinchi) created one of the most influential crime family in the US. The brothers saw a life beyond drugs that led into the world of hip-hop; their move from drugs to music would render the siblings as worldwide icons.

Their strong belief in family loyalty would be the backbone of both their relationship and partnership, but also the basis for their eventual alienation.

BMF is set to be a story about love, family, adversity, and the pursuit of the American dream.

The teaser trailer hardly gives anything away, except for the fact that there will be tough choices to make in regard to life and death. The show stars Demetrius Flenory Jr. who will be portraying his father in the series, suggesting that BMF will have an insane amount of realism within it.

BMF stands for Black Mafia Family, and with the mention of any Mafia comes cruelty, violence, and deadly grudges; this show is definitely set to be an action-packed yet soulful journey. The American dream is something that has been seen many times, but BMF seems to be tackling this idea in a totally new and unique way.

BMF is executive produced by Jackson, alongside showrunner, executive producer, writer and Detroit native Randy Huggins (Star, Rebel, Power). Tasha Smith (Empire, Power) is set to direct multiple episodes as well as executive produce.

Terri Kopp, Anthony Wilson and Anne Clements also serve as executive producers on the series. BMF is produced through Jackson’s G-Unit Film and Television in association with Lionsgate Television for STARZ.

Due to many of the crew members working together on other projects, we can expect to see a very well-written and directed series, along with a perfectly coordinated narrative.

BMF will premier on Starzplay on Sunday September 26th, 2021, with new episodes releasing weekly.
