There are quite a few musical series out there, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend being a rather popular one. A new kind of show, however, is set to hit Apple TV+ next month (July 2021), and it looks like a bright and chipper adventure!

Apple TV+ offers a brilliant array of different genres to watch, including drama, action, comedy series, feature films, documentaries, children and family entertainment. The streaming service is still growing in popularity, as it was released in November of 2019.

Executive produced by Lorne Michaels and starring Emmy award-winner Keegan Michael-Key and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D actress Dove Cameron, Schmigadoon! is set to be a colourful and wacky new entry into the musical series genre.

Schmigadoon! follows couple Josh (Michael-Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong) as their backpacking trip takes an unexpected turn.

After crossing a bridge shrouded in fog, the leading pair soon discover that the bridge transported them to a town called Schmigadoon. Initially, they believe that the singing and dancing is all an act for tourists, but they soon realise that they are trapped.

Josh and Melissa now know that the only way out of this overly-excited town, is to find true love; however, the pair become confused, as aren’t they supposed to be in love?

The trailer sees Josh be less than enthusiastic about being stuck in a town whose inhabitants are either obsessed with musicals, or can’t seem to stop singing, while Melissa is no more excited than her partner, but shows an interesting optimism when faced with their challenge of finding true love, as she thinks she has already found it; but has she really?

The couple are shown to try various methods to get themselves back to the real world, but none seem to be working...

Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio co-created this unique series together; Paul serves as showrunner, and has written all the original songs for the show. Barry Sonnenfeld is director and executive producer.

Starring alongside Cameron, Michael-Key and Strong, are Alan Cumming, Kristin Chenoweth, Aaron Tveit, Ariana DeBose, Fred Armisen, Jaime Camil, Jane Krakowski and Ann Harada. Martin Short guest stars.

While this series might not be for everyone, it definitely seems to be a breath of fresh air that many people will no doubt be dying to watch! With a brilliant cast, wonderful-looking choreography and visuals, Schmigadoon! is surely a stand-out entry into television!

The series will contain six episodes, with the first two being released together on Apple TV+ on July 26th, 2021!
