Sky Cinema is coming out with some amazing movie announcements lately and, just yesterday (Friday 9th July, 2021) revealed the trailer for new drama featuring Star Wars actor Oscar Isaac and IT actress Jessica Chastain.

Scenes from a Marriage is a limited series coming to Sky TV sometime later this year (2021). The executive production crew for this series consists of Hagai Levi, Amy Herzog, Michael Ellenberg, Lars Blomgren, Daniel Bergman, and Blair Breard, along with stars Isaac and Chastain.

The series is based off of Ingmar Bergman’s 1973 classic Swedish drama show; Scenes from a Marriage will take a look at everything from love, hate, passion, monogamy, marriage, and divorce through the eyes of a contemporary American couple.

Bergman’s 1973 drama series followed couple Marianne (Liv Ullmann) and her husband Johan (Erland Josephson), whose seemingly picture-perfect marriage grinds to a holt and changes forever, when Johan becomes involved with another woman.

The recently released trailer shows us many different aspects of marriage and being in love; we see Isaac’s character singing to his daughter to try and nudge her into sleeping, we see laughter and admiration from both characters towards one another, and we see arguing and blatant disagreement as the couple, under the sound of Isaac’s singing, shout at one another.

We are shown every nook and cranny of the couple’s relationship, from kissing on the couch to yelling at one another, we see the look of despair and hopelessness on their faces, but we also see happiness and love. This series seems to be aiming to show that no one, and no relationship, is perfect.

With the idea of Bergman’s classic series in mind, we can only wonder how this serious-toned show has been adapted; will Isaac’s character commit adultery, will the couple struggle to cope after a traumatic event? Anything could happen in the series and, as the show suggests, in life.

Scenes from a Marriage is confirmed to air on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW later this year (2021).
