The 38-year-old former boxer made history as part of the BBC Latin and ballroom competition's first same-sex couple with Katya Jones last year, but the pair were axed from the show when Katya tested positive for the coronavirus.

Now, Nicola has dropped a huge hint she wants to dust off her dancing shoes again for another programme, and her comments come ahead of the upcoming ITV hidden identity dancing competition's TV debut.

Appearing on 'The Jonathan Ross Show', she says: "Who knows, maybe there's another dance show I can do?"

Nicola was "gutted" when she was told she would have to leave 'Strictly' after four weeks as she would have preferred to have "gone out fighting".

She says: "Katya got COVID and then that was it, we were out of the show.

"I was absolutely gutted. Being a fighter, I’d have preferred to have gone out on my shield, in a dance off. How I never caught the virus I have no idea."

Quizzed on whether she could've made it to the final had the virus not intervened, she adds: "Ah yeah, [of] course. I’m a champ."

The Olympic boxer admitted she had an "awesome experience" on the programme.

She says: "First thing, I wasn’t getting hit in the face, so that was amazing. Because I had the fitness side already, it was just learning the dance routines and remembering to point my toes.

"Because I was so used to making myself as small as I could for defence in boxing, having to open up, project to the crowd, point my toes, know where to stand, turn … it was an awesome experience."
