Pat Cash exits The Masked Singer

The 56-year-old tennis player found himself out of the competition - during which he had dressed as set of Bagpipes as an nod to his Scottish heritage - after performing Wheatus hit 'Teenage Dirtbag' on Love-themed week.

Upon his elimination, he said: "I have Scottish blood, so apologies to everyone in Scotland. I'm really embarrassed but I had a lot of fun trying [with the accent] anyway! You guys were so close [to guessing] from the very first song. Within the first minute, you guessed me so I was sitting there going 'Oh! That was a s short appearance on The Masked Singer.'"

His exit came after a sing-off with the Poodle character - whose identity remains undisclosed - and he performed a rendition of Dusty Springfield’s 'I Only Wanna Be With You', which led to judges Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan incorrectly guessing he was Joe Wicks and Tim Henman respectively, while Jonathan Ross claimed he would "gladly eat the costume" if it wasn't John McEnroe.

Davina McCall was the only judge to guess Pat's identity correctly, as she declared: "You are Pat Cash" just before he removed his mask.

The sports legend - who is remembered for winning the men's singles championship at Wimbledon in 1987, and climbing the stands to celebrate - went on to claim that taking part in the singing competition is "just about the most nerve-wracking thing" he has ever done.

Speaking to host Joel Dommett on the show, he said: "The thing I'm probably most famous for is climbing through the stands. In sporting events, nobody did that before I did it. But I'm sort of a frustrated rock guitarist. I had a band a little bit, for a little while and I call myself the 'emergency singer'. I liked the idea that I could just focus on myself. Ironically, it's strange, seeing the crowed is quite nerve-wracking. I've played the centre court at Wimbledon but coming on here is just about the most nerve-wracking thing ever. But what a great experience, I'm very very lucky."

Pat's elimination follows that of pop singer Will Young in week three, who was posing as the Lion Fish and 'Loose Women' star Gloria Hunniford - who was unveiled as the Snow Leopard in the second heat of the competition.

M People star Heather Small - who was dressed as the Chandelier - became the first celebrity to face elimination in week one.
