The late magician's son - from his first marriage to Jacqueline Skipworth - was following in his famous father's footsteps at the Manchester auditions last week as he stepped out in front of the judges to wow them with his act.

As reported by The Sun newspaper's Bizarre TV column, he told the panel: "Last year my son had a kidney transplant.

"We were talking after the operation and he was saying how grateful he was that he'd been given a second chance at life.

"That's what spurred me on to come here today."

After Martin's magic routine, the judges - Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams - praised him for a "perfect performance" and revealed their admiration for his dad, who sadly died from a brain tumour in 2016.

David said: "[Paul] did this incredible thing in that he wasn't just an incredible magician, he was a fantastic entertainer as well.

"Those genes have passed on to you, I feel, in a really big way."

At the time of Paul's death, Martin revealed he would be keeping his father's memory alive with his own magic performances, and he often discussed tricks with the legendary star.

He said: "There was no better person for me to learn from. He was the master - and I will miss him terribly."

When the news broke that his dad had passed away, Martin admitted he turned to social media to "see if it was true" after his stepmother Debbie McGee - Paul's second wife - called him with the sad news.

He explained: "Silly as it sounds, the first thing I did was look on social media, just to see if it was true.

"I know it sounds ridiculous but that is what I did."
