Star of 2021 movie The Suicide Squad, David Dastmalchian, has said that new HBO Max series Peacemaker, the upcoming DCEU (DC Extended Universe) spin-off series, is absolutely incredible, giving it high praise.

The forthcoming show, which will be premiering on HBO Max next week (second week of January, 2022), focuses on The Suicide Squad character Peacemaker, who is portrayed by wrestler-turned-actor John Cena

Peacemaker is created, written and directed by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy films), who will also be serving as the series’ showrunner.

Many fans enjoyed Cena’s Peacemaker, even despite his questionable acts at the end of The Suicide Squad... The character’s wit and naive banter made him a joy to watch, and many fans loved his role in the DCEU film.

Despite being shot and left to die at the end of the movie, a post-credit scene showed Peacemaker to be in a hospital, recovering from his injuries, thus creating a way for Peacemaker to happen.

His character can be described as rather contradictory, however, as his name suggests calm and a will to right wrongs, which in Peacemaker’s defence he does do, but he leaves a pile of bodies and a trail of blood in his wake.

Dastmalchian’s Polka-Dot Man also made his cinematic debut in The Suicide Squad, a surprisingly deep and significant character that many fans developed a soft spot for.

The first reactions to Peacemaker are spreading through the internet, many of which are wonderfully positive, including castmate Dastmalchian, who praises the show for being ‘BLOW-YOUR-LIPS-OFF-AWESOME!’ See Dastmalchian’s Twitter post below:

While someone from the DCEU, and a friend of Cena’s, wouldn’t be expected to be critical of the upcoming show, he isn’t exactly on his own with his adoration.

Many reviews of Peacemaker have been entirely positive, and have praised Gunn for carrying the themes that made The Suicide Squad as good as it was over to the show.

From clips of the series that have already been released, it is clear that the show will have a humorous overtone, but with violence, death and horror at the centre.

Cena has said that the series will explore Peacemaker a lot more, and states that family will prove to be a key theme in the upcoming show.

January 2022 seems a rather empty month for content, given that Marvel’s Morbius has been delayed (for the seventh time), so it is a pleasantry to many that Peacemaker will still release this month (January, 2022).

Peacemaker will debut on HBO Max on Thursday, January 13th, 2022, with the first three episodes available to view immediately, and new episodes of Season 1 set to release weekly.
