The 44-year-old star was set to embark on his first live stand up tour in eight years this April but had to axe his shows due to unforeseen family circumstances, and has been silent ever since the announcement.

However, the comedian has taken to Twitter to reveal there will be a charity screening of new episodes of the hit show 'Peter Kay's Car Share'.

The tweet read: "Exciting news: A charity screening of new Peter Kay's Car Share episodes will be held at Blackpool Opera House on Saturday 7th April.

Tickets on sale Saturday at 9am."

Although the tweet seems to be written by his team, Peter wrote a personal statement on the Ticketmaster website.

He said: "The Lily Foundation is an inspiring charity that helps to improve the lives of children with Mitochondrial Disease.

"I've had first-hand experience of the Foundation's work and I'm proud to raise both awareness and much needed funds to help with the inspiring work they provide to children and their families."

The charity screening with include two brand new episodes of the show - which he wrote and starred in - with all funds going to The Lily Foundation.

Peter announced his return to the stage last year after successfully writing and starring in two series of comedy show.

He said: "I really miss it. I know how lucky I am to be making television series and have really loved these past few years working on 'Car Share', but I miss doing stand-up."

However, he sadly had to cancel his show due to unforeseen circumstances.

In a statement posted on his official Twitter account last year, he said: "Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects. This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance For Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.

"My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I'm sure you'll understand my family must always come first.

I've always endeavoured to protect my family's privacy from the media. I hope that the media and the public will continue to respect our privacy at this time.

"Once again, I'm very sorry. (sic)"
