UPDATE: Richard Madeley has now been pulled from the cast of I'm A Celebrity following his trip to hospital in the early hours of November 25th, 2021.

He took to Instagram to announce the news, explaining: "Richard here - firstly just to say that I'm absolutely FINE. I started to feel briefly unwell in the small hours of the morning and was taken to hospital as a precaution. By leaving the camp, I had consequently broken the Covid 'bubble' and as such I've had to leave the castle and all the wonderful celebs that remain in the camp.

"Obviously I'm gutted to be leaving so soon but the safety of all the campmates is the number one priority. I'm incredibly excited to watch their journey continue... even more so at the prospect of being somewhere a little warmer than Gwrych Castle.

"Thank you to everyone who supported me on my brief but completely unforgettable adventure - I've made some great friends and honestly had the time of my life."

Just a few days into his time on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, 65-year-old Richard Madeley has fallen ill in the camp, with ITV taking him to hospitals overnight after evaluations from an on-site medical team.

A spokesperson for the show explained: “Richard was unwell in the early hours and was immediately seen by our on-site medical team.

“He’s since been taken to hospital as a precaution. The health and safety of our campmates is our priority.”

Exactly what this means for his future on the show remains to be seen, but if there is something to be concerned about, don’t be surprised to see ITV pull him from the ranks of his fellow campmates altogether.

Madeley was last seen on the show hurtling down a chute head-first into a claustrophobic pipe, packed full of rotten fruit and vegetables, as part of the latest Castle Trial.

Aiming to pick up food for camp, he managed to only grab four out of a possible 10 stars, after struggling against some of what he described as the toughest knots to untie he had ever come across.

Still, he fed his fellow competitors, who were given a couple of squirrels to prepare for their evening meal. Whether that food has anything to do with his medical issues is unclear.

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said only that they were called “at 5.43am this morning, Thursday 25 November 2021, to reports of a medical emergency at Gwrych Castle in Abergale, Conwy.”

Fans have taken to social media to send the Good Morning Britain presenter their best wishes for a speedy recovery.

This year’s series has returned to Wales due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which has seen travel to and from Australia halted as the country enforces some of the strictest lockdown rules across the globe.

You can see the fallout of Richard’s removal from camp in tonight’s episode of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! at 9pm on ITV.
