Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice tipped to win Strictly

The former professional dancer on the BBC One competition believes the 'EastEnders' actress, who is deaf and only hears the beat through vibrations, and her dance partner will be crowned the winners this year, after the pair's tear-jerking Couple's Choice routine at the weekend.

Speaking in his and wife Ola's column for Hello!, Strictly Speaking, James said: "Let's be honest, at this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if Rose and Giovanni win the competition. I believe she's going to win, and she deserves to win. Her performances have been truly exceptional, this is her moment now."

His spouse hailed the routine "choreographically genius".

Ola said: "The dance on everybody's minds from last night has to be Rose and Giovanni's Couples Choice. It was so emotive. I'd go as far as to say it was choreographically genius."

By contrast, James admitted he found McFly star Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden's dance "a little dull".

He said: "It was a good performance, but I think it was a little dull - certainly not one of his best dances, but not one of his worst. The judges were quite harsh with their feedback for him which surprised me... he did a good job with a difficult dance."

Ola said his posture has improved, though the 'Obviously' hitmaker can "look a little stiff" at times.

Commenting on the pair's Vienesse Waltz, she said: "His posture has definitely improved too, though I think when he comes in and out of hold with Amy it can look a little stiff - which is exactly what Anton told them."

'Strictly Come Dancing' returns on Saturday (20.11.21) from 6.35pm on BBC One.
