The 35-year-old actress is said to be lucky to be alive after she smashed her vehicle into a concrete wall at Hunmanby Raceway near Scarborough, Yorkshire, yesterday, and lost consciousness "for about 30 seconds" on impact.

Firefighters took two hours to cut the former 'Emmerdale' star out of the motor, and she is said to have suffered two sprained wrists and severe bruising.

A source told The Sun Online: "She tried to overtake Ben [Fry] on a bend and was travelling too fast and smashed into the concrete wall on the track.

"She lost consciousness for about 30 seconds on impact. Fortunately she was wearing a helmet and race gear."

Roxanne had been racing her Minster FM radio show co-host Ben Fry when the collision occurred.

The source claimed the 'Lake Placid 3' star was given morphine as she was loaded into the air ambulance and taken 41 miles away to Hull Royal Infirmary.

Roxanne - who is known for starring as Jo Sugden in 'Emmerdale' from 2005 to 2008 - revealed earlier this year that she opted to go into radio after feeling "creatively starved" as an actress.

She said: "I felt like an uninvited guest at a party. I was sick of feeling invisible and creatively starved so I made a decision to change gear which I'd hope most people would do if they were unhappy.

"I woke up one day and thought, 'I'm not excited about going to work,' something was always either tarnishing it, either it was short lived, something went wrong, politics during filming or rehearsing.

"I'm exactly where I'm meant to be now and I feel valued and creatively fulfilled in broadcasting with my own radio show on Minster FM.

"I actually jump out of bed on a morning and look forward to the day. Even as early as 5am!

"I've wanted to do this for a while. I feel like I've been unhappy and unfulfilled over the past few years, and if you're not happy with something in your life, be it a relationship or career, you should change things."
