The 'EastEnders' actor - who is currently starring as drag queen Loco Chanelle in the West End production of 'Everybody's Talking About Jamie' - last appeared on the soap on Christmas Day (25.12.18) when his character was pushed down the stairs in the Slaters' house and left for dead, only for him to leave when nobody was looking, taking baby Cherry with him.

Opening up about a mysterious text Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) received - which she believes to be from Alfie - he told ITV's 'This Morning': "I'd like [it] it is me that said 'Kat, keep the faith', and Alfie's on the run with Phil Mitchell's £50,000.

"So they've left the door open, and I know Kate Oates who's there now is a wonderful executive producer. She's bringing in some wonderful new character and great storylines, and I hope there's a chance for Alfie to come back one day."

His comments come after the BBC soap's boss Kate admitted there were a lot of options for the show's direction and how Alfie will play into it.

She said last year: "I'm excited about moving Kat on with refreshing dynamics. I feel that is really important. But with Kat and Alfie they will always have that [bond] and if you wanted to bring it back to that you absolutely could.

"I'm also interested in refreshing it and doing different things. I'll go with anything."

She also revealed she would be happy to work with Shane again after how well he did with his return over Christmas.

She added: "Shane has created such an icon in Alfie that you never know. You don't come back at Christmas for nothing, he did really well with that.

"I would work with Shane again, he's Alfie, he's awesome. At the moment his storyline, he's got a good one."
