The former 'EastEnders' star - who was known for playing Ricky Butcher in the soap - took part in the gruelling series in a bid to improve his well-being in under a month, but he has admitted his health kick led to him waking up at 4am with a lively manhood.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Sid said: "In Sardinia it was like: 'OK we've got doctors, we can ask them anything.' Shaun [Ryder] asked me how I'd slept and I went: 'I keep waking up with a boner!' Every night at 4am. I couldn't get back to sleep. Shaun just laughed at me and said: 'F***ing hell mate, you're alright then!' "

However, although his co-star found it funny, the 46-year-old actor still saw a doctor.

He explained: "I still spoke to the doctor about it but he went: 'You're fine, you're fine.'"

As well as Sid and Shaun, soap legend June Brown, actress Claire King, presenter Roy Walker, presenter Sherrie Hewson, TV personality Sandra Martin and astrologer Russell Grant also signed up to the experimental show.

The group spent 21 days on the island of Sardinia where they were asked to commit to a strict diet and exercise routine bespoke for their individual needs.

After 21 days of intensive rejuvenation, the celebrities were assessed to discover whether they had reached their combined goal of losing 100 years from their collective biological ages, both physically and mentally, inside and out.

Kate Teckman, commissioning editor, ITV, said: "Who doesn't want to turn back the clock and look and feel a bit more youthful?

"Anti-ageing concerns us all but to find out whether you can roll back the years by experiencing life in the blue zone, we have used leading experts and physicians along with a bunch of brave celebrities prepared to be put through their paces. "
