Simon Cowell will play a dog in 'Pudsey: The Movie'.

The 53-year-old music mogul is to portray a pooch pal of the loveable canine, who shot to fame with his owner Ashleigh Butler last year when they won 'Britain's Got Talent', with his fellow 'BGT' judge David Walliams signed up to voice the titular mutt.

A source said: "It's the perfect pairing. Simon and David had such great chemistry and banter on Britain's Got Talent that it makes sense to get them together for the movie.

"If David is voicing Pudsey then who better to play one of his furry friends than Simon?"

Simon and David have a well-known bromance on the ITV talent show and as a result of their on-screen chemistry the 'X Factor' boss has been linked to the role of Pudsey's real-life gay cocker spaniel friend called Sam.

The source added to the Daily Star newspaper: "It's well-known that in real life Pudsey has a gay cocker spaniel friend called Sam. Maybe he will be in the movie and perhaps that is who Simon will play?"

The film will tell the story of Pudsey's adventures in the fictional village of Chuffington-on-Sea and his attempts to save the sleepy setting when he finds out about an evil plot to destroy the location.

Several stars have also signed up for the motion picture including Emmerdale's Luke Tittensor and 'Harry Potter' actress Jessica Hynes.
