The 'Coronation Street' star - who married his long term partner Emma Gleave eight years ago - shared a snap of his wife on social media holding a pair of tweezers, and suggested it had been a painful procedure.

Alongside an angry faced emoji, Simon - who plays Steve McDonald on the soap - wrote: "I'm I the only one who has an armature ingrowing hair Devil surgeon (sic)"

The actor's Twitter followers were quick to offer words of support, with some of them opening up about their own experiences.

One tweeted: "I had one once. Not nice. Relief when its gone Simon"

Another laughed: "Think you should definitely video this surgical procedure!!"

The amusing but awkward moment was a far cry from the loved up couple's Valentine's Day (14.02.19) plans, which saw them head to the cinema to watch Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga's music drama 'A Star Is Born'.

Emma tweeted: "Valentines date night to the cinema! 'A star is born! Wow what a film......... whole new respect for @ladygaga ! LOVED IT @simongregson123"

Last month, the pair had a "lucky escape" after a fire broke out at Manchester's The Ivy restaurant.

Simon, 44, wrote on Twitter: "Hats off to the staff at The Ivy yesterday for getting everyone out safe."

Emma shared a clip on her Twitter, writing: "The Ivy Manchester is now on fire! What a lucky escape (sic)"

Fortunately, the fire was confined to The Ivy's terrace area, allowing the restaurant to re-open its doors the very next night after being given the go-ahead by fire chiefs.

A statement read: "The fire was contained in one section of The Roof Garden thanks to the excellent work of the Greater Manchester Fire Services who have informed us that the building is now totally safe to occupy."
