The 'Coronation Street' actor has signed up to appear in new show 'VeganVille', which aims to convert a Welsh village to veganism, and 'Loose Women' panellist Saira Khan is also said to have joined the programme.

A source told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre TV column: "'VeganVille' will see meat-eating residents in Wales lured into a life where animals are strictly loved but not eaten."

As well as his love of vegetables, the 44-year-old star is also a big animal lover and recently admitted he would love to move to a safari park.

He said: "Animals are so much nicer than people. If anyone has a safari park and needs a live-in family, we're in.

"All is well with the world when you're with animals."

What's more, the star - who has played Steve McDonald since 1989 - has recently taken up martial arts.

He added: "I've started with the martial arts. It's a bit hard as I'm old-ish and fat, but it's worth it."

As well as being a long-term 'Corrie' cast member, Simon has starred in several other shows.

Last year, he appeared in 'Celebrity Haunted Mansion' and he enjoyed the programme so much he booked onto a course "go investigating" ghosts.

He said: "I got so into it that I've booked on some haunted course to go investigating.

"I'm also going on a trip to stay at the haunted mansion again - I must be mad."

Simon survived five nights on the scary live show - which saw stars sleep in a terrifying mansion - during which he claimed he had been attacked by a ghost.
