The ‘Coronation Street’ actor ended up finishing in second place behind 'Emmerdale' star Danny Miller on the ITV reality show, which took place for a second year at Gwrych Castle in Wales rather than its usual Australia location due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Simon, 47, was delighted to discover he'd dropped 14 pounds due to a diet of mostly rice and beans, and his first meal once out of camp was far less then he thought he'd devour due to his stomach shrinking.

When asked what the first thing he ate was, he answered: "They put us up in this beautiful resort. I only had a cheese and ham sandwich! I could have had anything I wanted but your stomach shrinks. I lost over a stone, so any kind of big meal made me feel poorly! I had a sandwich and copious amounts of lovely red wine."

Simon admits he was shocked to see how big he looked in his camp gear, and he is now determined to live a healthier lifestyle and lose even more belly fat in 2022 after piling on the pounds during the coronavirus lockdown.

In an interview with OK! magazine, he said: "I’ve got home and can see I’ve lost so much weight. Then I put on the TV to see an episode back and I thought ‘Oh my God, I was ginormous.' I don’t think I’ve been that heavy before in my life, it was because of lockdown.

“Now I’d love to keep the weight off. I’m going to try and live a healthier lifestyle, as when I was doing the cyclone I think I was the only one who didn’t enjoy it!”

Although confessing to a recent takeaway treat, he added: "Although I say that, I nailed a huge Chinese takeaway the other night!”

And Simon's 38-year-old wife Emma - who he shares three children, Alfie, 14, Harry, 12, and five-year-old Henry, with - is going to support him in his New Year's health kick.

Emma said: “We do walks with the kids. Isolation and lockdown didn’t help, I think everyone’s in the same boat. We’ll get fit in the New Year though.”

Simon has played Steve on 'Corrie' since 1989 but after agreeing to 'I'm A Celebrity...' he wants to take on more projects.

He said: "I'd love to do some other things. Hopefully other jobs come with it and I get to meet more people in the industry, do documentaries and things like that."
