The 'Sunday Brunch' star is the seventh famous name announced to be taking to the ballroom when the BBC One series returns to screens this autumn and is "excited, terrified, and proud" to be taking part.

He said: "I am so excited, terrified and proud to be invited to be part of 'Strictly' 2017. I've always been a HUUUUGE fan of the show. When I put on my sequins and hit the floor it will genuinely be my very first time dancing ballroom and latin. Nobody will try harder, have more fun or get more out of it than me. I can't wait."

The 54-year-old chef revealed his involvement on 'Sunday Brunch' on Sunday (13.08.17), where co-host Tim Lovejoy warned him his job on the Channel 4 show was at risk if he didn't do well.

Presenting his pal with a tin of fake tan, Tim said: "If you don't win, you're going to lose your place on the show."

Simon is particularly looking forward to trying the ballroom routines.

He said: "I'll be good at the waltz. I think I'll be more ballroom than Latin."

The two stars had teased throughout the show they would be revealing one of the contestants, leading viewers to speculate it would be one of the day's guests, Martine McCutcheon, 'EastEnders' actor Lee Ryan or The Script frontman Danny O'Donoghue.

Simon joins actors Joe McFadden and Davood Ghadami, actress Gemma Atkinson, presenter Ruth Langsford, The Saturdays singer Mollie King, and Reverend Richard Coles in signing up for the show.

More names will be announced over the coming weeks, but the likes of former 'X Factor' stars Aston Merrygold, Alexandra Burke, and Olly Murs, ex-'EastEnders' star Samantha Womack, 'The Weakest Link' host Anne Robinson, and singer Matt Goss have been rumoured to be taking part.
