The 55-year-old judge admitted the contestants and pros would find it difficult to have flings this year because of the Covid-19 restrictions in place.

Appearing on this week's episode of 'The Jonathan Ross Show', he said: "That's going to be very difficult this year isn't it …

"They're still not allowed to go to each other's houses. You're not sharing a house."

Comedian Rob Beckett - who also appears as a guest - quipped: "And the pubs are shut. It's so hard to have an affair these days ... it's impossible, you can't do it."

Meanwhile, Craig actually dismissed the idea that the possibility for romance on the show was a "curse", instead describing it as a "blessing".

He added: "There was never a curse in the first place, let's be honest. There was a blessing.

"I've been waiting for the curse to happen to me, but it had to happen on Tinder. I sit there on my judging desk hoping maybe someone would come up to me…"

Craig also weighed in on the show's first ever same-sex pairing, as retired Olympian boxer Nicola Adams has been paired up with dancer Katya Jones.

He said: "It's fantastic. I've been waving this flag for five years, I really have tried to get same-sex couples on there. A lot of people are averse to it.

"People dance together, you just have to decide who is going backward at any one time."

He insisted it was "about time" bosses pushed on with same-sex partnerships for the competition, and he dismissed critics who were unimpressed when male pros Johannes Radebe and Graziano di Prima danced together.

He added: "There was that huge furore as well when two pro boys danced together - all these huge complaints apparently - which was absolutely ridiculous.

"It's about time and I think it's absolutely brilliant, I really do."
