Pasha Kovalev was Caroline's professional partner when she won the BBC series in 2014, and on the special, he's recalled an emotional contemporary dance they did together.

He said: "In that dance Caroline managed to show her real emotions. And I think that’s the key why the audience would connect to it and feel exactly what was happening in the dance."

Craig Revel Horwood also has fond memories of their eye-catching routine.

He recalled: "It was the first time we saw contemporary done in a beautiful and imaginative way. It shows Caroline at her very best. Beautiful technique, beautiful emotion and beautifully danced."

Other stars are also set to hail Caroline - who took her own life in February, aged 40 - in the upcoming special, the Daily Star newspaper reports.

In the Christmas show, pro dancer Janette Manrara says: "Caroline was a part of the 'Strictly' family then and still is a part of the 'Strictly Come Dancing' family today. I miss her."

Janette, 37, previously described the late TV star as a "bundle of energy".

The professional dancer also hailed Caroline as a "hugely popular winner" of the BBC show.

Speaking earlier this year, she said: "Caroline was loved by all on 'Strictly' and was a hugely popular winner among the executive and the crew.

"She was a bundle of energy and they thought if they were going to look at some of the best finals ever it would be fitting to feature her in a big way. She’s sorely missed by many, but particularly by her 'Strictly' family."
