The 'Sense and Sensibility' star told of the humorous incident in his 'Strictly Come Dancing' column for The Daily Telegraph newspaper, but was quick to note that idea behind the act was strictly professional.

He wrote: "This week, Karen parcel-taped me to a broom handle. And she bit me. Not for some strange fetish, but to try and get me into the correct waltz pose."

The 55-year-old actor went on to reveal that it was all in an effort to keep his arms aligned correctly.

He added: "I have to have my arms in complete alignment - like I’ve drawn back the bow, am about to shoot the arrow, with shoulders back and down – hence the broom and the biting. I know. It’s absolutely bonkers."

Despite her unusual methods, Greg later went on to heap praise on his partner Karen, 39, who has been a mainstay on the BBC ballroom show since 2012, reaching the final with 'TOWIE' star Mark Wright in 2014.

He said: "It is wonderful working with Karen. We are professionals who’ve been around a few blocks a good few times. She brings her eye-watering expertise to the start of the process of me learning the steps, then I can bring bits from my life as an actor into the mix and hopefully make a contribution. It feels that there is a good symbiotic relationship building between us."

Greg - who is married to Emma Thompson - joins a host of famous faces competing for the glitterball trophy this year, including 'Loose Women' panellist Judi Love, 40, 'Peep Show' comedian Robert Webb, 48, and McFly musician Tom Fletcher, 36.
