While ITV bosses have not ruled out employing a permanent replacement for Piers Morgan - who suddenly quit the show earlier this month - they will continue to have the 50-year-old TV presenter as the "star" alongside various co-hosts on a rotation system for now.

A source said: "Piers’ sudden departure has, of course, put a rocket up everyone.

"But what ITV needs now, more than ever, are calm heads and someone to steady the ship.

"Susanna has proven herself a consummate broadcaster for the past ten years - and clearly has the star factor.

"She is smart, feisty and opinionated. She may have been Piers’ foil for the past five years, but she’s so much more than this - and now it’s very much a case of The Susanna Show.

"ITV have offered her their full backing, and she will have even more editorial say going forwards."

What's more, Andi Peters, who presents the competition segments on 'GMB' and sister show 'Lorraine', will be given "more opportunities to step up" in the near future.

The source added to The Sun newspaper: "Behind the scenes, Andi is very popular, and polls well with viewers despite, arguably, having the unenviable task of making competitions sound interesting.

"He will be given more opportunities to step up too."

Andi stepped in for Lorraine Kelly on 'Lorraine' last summer during part of her six-week break from hosting duties.

Earlier today (31.03.21), Susanna - who usually co-hosts 'GMB' from Mondays to Thursdays - announced she is heading on her Easter break a day early.

Her fellow 'GMB' presenter Ranvir Singh said: "Right, that's it from us. You're off from tomorrow, aren't you?"

Susanna replied: "I am. I'm off for a little break at Easter."

Ranvir said: "A well-earned one."

Following Piers' 'GMB' departure, he has since claimed he was given an ultimatum by ITV bosses - to apologise for his comments about Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, following her tell-all Oprah Winfrey interview, or to quit.
