The Michelin-starred chef was approached by show bosses about appearing on the BBC One soap as a punter sipping on a drink in the Queen Vic pub, but the former child actor had to reject the offer because he had too many other commitments.

He said: "I was asked to appear in 'EastEnders' a while ago. It was just hanging out in the Queen Vic as a random person in the background having a drink.

"But I had to turn it down as I just couldn't get it in the diary with all my other commitments. I don't watch the show, but it would've been fun."

While he doesn't look likely to be cropping up in Albert Square anytime soon, the 44-year-old star is hoping he will be able to accept an offer to feature on 'Countdown'.

Speaking at his food, drink and musical festival Pub On The Park, he is quoted by The Sun's Bizarre TV column as saying: "I've been asked to be in Countdown's Dictionary Corner.

"I really want to make that work in between filming and the festival."

Tom is no stranger to acting after he landed a part in the BBC One Christmas special of Agatha Christie's 'Miss Marple: They Do It with Mirrors' in 1991 after he was spotted in a youth theatre.

But the chef opted to pursue his love of cooking aged 18 rather than continue with his acting career, and he has since appeared on several cooking shows.

He previously presented 'Bake Off: The Professionals', and currently hosts BBC Two series 'Food and Drink'.
