The adventures of some of the most famous and fiercest Vikings to have ever lived will be explored in Vikings: Valhalla, set to come to Netflix in late February 2022.

Set over a thousand years ago, in the early 11th century and at a time where the Vikings have overrun much of England, having claimed ownership over Normandy, audiences will watch as legendary explorer Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett) embarks on a journey unlike any other, alongside his headstrong sister Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson) and ambitious Nordic prince, Harold Sigurdsson (Leo Suter).

Following a sexual assault by Christian Vikings, Freydis has turned away from the religion and instead become the leader of the Old Norse religion, which fights against rising Christianity in Scandinavia.

With tensions rising between the English royals and the Vikings, their battle reaches a bloody breaking point, and the Vikings themselves face internal struggles over their conflicting Christian and pagan beliefs.

Our aforementioned three Vikings will set out on an epic trip that will take them across oceans, through battlefields and from Kattegat to England and beyond.

Of course, nothing is ever promised in this land where laws are bent to the will of those who want to claim power; whether they’ll all survive their journey remains to be seen.

Joining the aforementioned cast are a host of recognisable faces that will surely fit right in. Amongst them is Pollyanna McIntosh, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, David Oakes, Laura Berlin, Bradley Freegard, Caroline Henderson, Julian Seager and Asbjørn Krogh Nissen.

The show is of course a spin-off to History's critically-acclaimed Vikings series, with screenwriter Jeb Stuart serving as co-creator alongside Michael Hirst.

Filming for the project started in early October 2020 at the familiar Ashford Studios, where Vikings was previously filmed. Positive COVID-19 tests saw filming suspended on a number of occasions, but the cast and crew battled through and, production on the already-confirmed second season wrapped in November 2021.

Steve Saint Leger, who oversaw several episodes of Vikings, will return to the director's chair for this new series, whilst Hannah Quinn and BAFTA-winning Dane Niels Arden Oplev will also direct some of the episodes.

Vikings: Valhalla comes to Netflix on February 25th, 2022.
