The 40-year-old former footballer was reported in July to have taken part in the ice skating show's auditions at the Slough Ice Arena, but it has now been claimed he won't be taking part in the show, despite being "really impressive" on the ice.

A source told The Sun: "Wayne had several meetings with bosses but suddenly he was no longer taking part.

"Dancing On Ice audition a lot of stars - sometimes people don't get through if they're not very good skaters but Wayne was really impressive - he was expected to sign the contract and then disappeared from the lineup, it's all a bit of a mystery!"

Wayne tried out for the ITV series alongside the likes of Dr. Alex George, and Denise van Outen, as well as Olympians Denise Lewis and Mark Foster, darts star Fallon Sherrock, and former 'Love Island' star Luke Trotman.

As of the time of writing, Denise van Outen is the only star from the try outs that has been confirmed to have made the cut, whilst Billie Faiers, Faye Brooks, Rebekah Vardy, Jason Donovan, Myleene Klass, Graham Bell, Colin Jackson, Joe Warren-Plant, and Sonny Jay will also take to the ice.

Meanwhile, Wayne - who has Parker, six, and Carter, five, with his wife and singer Frankie Bridge - was also reported to have wowed 'DOI' bosses with his dance moves on TikTok, which fans had been hoping would land him a place on the show.

A source said at the time: "Wayne amused fans in lockdown with his TikTok moves, now they'll get to see how entertaining he is on the ice."
