It’s been a long time coming, but finally, fans of the graphic novel Y: The Last Man and those new to the story have now been allowed their first look at the upcoming TV series, with the release of a first look trailer.

The basis for the show is quickly revealed in the teaser, as we watch the world’s men succumb to a deadly… something… and only one survive amongst the millions of women on the planet.

In this post-apocalyptic world, every mammal with a Y chromosome has fallen, other than cisgender male Yorick Brown (Ben Schnetzer) and his pet monkey.

As the survivors of this cataclysmic event attempt to find the source of the disaster, they must learn to work together and traverse this new world, hoping to restore what was lost and build something better than what they had before.

The creative team for the project reflects the subject of the show, with all episodes being directed by women and the production including a significant number of female department heads, including both DPs, the production designer, costume designer, casting director, editors, stunt coordinators and more.

Eliza Clark serves as showrunner and executive producer, working alongside Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, Mari Jo Winkler-Ioffreda, Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra.

Y: The Last Man is a 60-issue science fiction comic book series published beginning in 2002. Throughout its run, it won numerous awards including three Eisners, and was nominated for the first ever Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story, thanks to its critically-acclaimed tenth volume.
