Ah, Love Island. It was a show that had us all hooked from the moment we started watching and rooting for the loved-up singles who we joined week-in, week-out. Once Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham had been crowned 2018 champions however, the break-ups started coming thick and fast.

Six months on and there are only three couples remaining from those who had paired up on the show. Winners Dani and Jack are going strong and recently co-presented all the behind-the-scenes action from the National Television Awards. Finalists Kaz Crossley and Josh Denzel meanwhile look happier than ever, consistently sharing snaps from their travels across the globe with all of their fans on social media.

Then there's the pair that nobody expected to last this long - Adam Collard and Zara McDermott - who can't seem to stay away from controversy.

Just this week it's been reported that Adam and Zara got into a major conflict with Ferne McCann at an NTAs after-party. Tabloids suggest Ferne told her friends to stay away from Zara at the event, which led to Adam having a word and alcohol being thrown. Whether we'll ever know the exact truth of the matter remains to be seen.

So where did it go wrong for everybody else? Runners-up Paul Knops and Laura Anderson seemed to have an almost amicable break-up. The two worked hard to see if their partnership was meant to be, but eventually decided to call time on their romance after a reported string of blazing rows.

Laura has moved on and is now dating former Love Island contestant Max Morley, whilst Paul seems to still be single and looking for a wife rather than a fling.

Those who had more of a fiery split include Ellie Brown and Charlie Brake, as well as Georgia Steele and Sam Bird. All four appeared on the Love Island Christmas reunion special, and engaged in rows right in front of the cameras that had everybody throwing insults and calling one another liars.

The most recent break-up comes from Megan Barton-Hanson and Wes Nelson however. The two looked to have it all, but following Wes's first appearance on Dancing on Ice, and the major throwing of shade towards his professional ice-skating partner by Megan, they've called it quits.

Despite the split, the two insist that they remain good friends and Megan says she will be at this weekend's DOI live show to cheer on her former partner. Let's hope this one doesn't turn bitter!

So why don't the majority of Love Island relationships last? It likely has something to do with the fact that they are born out of a highly-manufactured situation and a world which is miles away from reality. Being forced to be together 24-hours-a-day sounds good in theory, as it allows the contestants to see all aspects of their potential partner's personality, but it doesn't prepare them to go out into everyday life and see if they can last.

Love Island returns later this year with a whole new bunch of singles all looking for love.
