The 38-year-old television legal expert -full name Robert Rinder - is set to swap the courtroom for the dancefloor after being approached by bosses on the BBC One ballroom contest to take part.

According to The Sun newspaper, producers are keen to get the witty ITV star signed up for the show in the hope that he can get involved in some verbal clashes with acid-tongued judge Craig Revel Horwood.

A source said: "Anybody who has watched 'Judge Rinder' will know that he is going to be a brilliant match for Craig. Producers hope they will go for each other and are predicting that viewers will tune in just to see them go head-to-head. We don't know whether he can dance or has a background in it, but we know he certainly is entertaining. That's what people want. He is in talks to be on the show but a contract hasn't signed."

Rinder attended the National Theatre School alongside 'Little Britain' stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams but swapped an acting career for law, becoming a professional barrister, when he went head-to-head with his friend Bennedict Cumberbatch in an audition.

Rinder and Cumberbatch are still close pals now and the 'Sherlock' star officiated Rinder's wedding to his partner Seth Cummings in Ibiza in 2013.
