The Real Housewives of New York City is without a doubt one of the most entertaining Real Housewives shows. Now in its tenth season, the cast involved are doing a brilliant job of proving the series’ longevity, and one of those is fan-favourite Luann de Lesseps.

Luann de Lesseps says being on reality TV "absolutely" scares people off

Asked what audiences should expect from the new season, Luann told Female First: “As always, a lot of drama! Also, people will see me live through a very difficult time in my life and actually come out on the other side and become a better person for it.”

The star also admitted that a lot of alliances will “shift” this season, but one person who definitely won’t be making an appearance is her ex-husband Tom D’Agostino.

“He was, of course, a big topic last season,” she admits. “And you’ll see him come up throughout this season, but mostly you will see me winding down in the divorce and moving on with my life.”

As has been well-documented, Luann has had a troubled few months recently, being arrested and then taking part in rehab. It’s something she’ll be addressing both on the series, and in a new cabaret show.

“It’s something that happened in my life and I address it because I’m not trying to hide anything,” she explains. “So I talk about it, and try to make light of it – the most I can, while also taking it very seriously.”

With all that’s gone on, Luann says she’s not dating yet, and says that her being on reality television “absolutely” scares people off. “But along those lines, it also weeds out all of the non-contenders; the ones that aren’t secure enough to take on a challenge like [that] to be with someone.”

Asked if it’s hard to be a Housewife, she replied: “You want to set a good example, especially for young women and the youth out there. And I think it is very hard to live up to those expectations. No one is perfect. But I think that women/people can relate to the hardships associated with how we live our lives and the pressures we face. It’s always difficult to live under a microscope, but it’s what I do, and it’s what we have done for 10 years now. I just hope that through my mistakes, not only do I learn from them, but that other people can learn from them as well.”

Oh, and don’t forget the Housewife she’d like to bring back to the show if she got the opportunity! “Jill Zarin,” she says, without hesitation. We’re not sure Bethenny Frankel would be on board with that!

The Real Housewives of New York City season 10 is available to stream Thursdays on hayu, reality on demand.
